CFL Bulbs: Another Sneaky UV Ray Producer
There have been rumors and European studies in the past showing that CFL light bulbs produce UV radiation and a new US study backs up this information. As we all should know by now, UV rays lead to skin damage and can cause cancer in the long term.
While these light bulbs are probably safe if they're in ceiling lights or covered by a large shade or additional glass cover you may want to remove them from desk or bedside lamps. A lot of offices use these bulbs now in order to save money so, as I mentioned here, it's important to ALWAYS wear sunscreen even if you're indoors. UV rays are sneaky and they come in through windows in buildings and cars, light bulbs and even computer screens.
Personally, I've never been a big fan of the CFL bulbs. They can't be disposed of in the regular trash so I'd have a pile of dead bulbs sitting in a closet until I could take them to ACE Hardware to be disposed of. I don't like that if you break one you basically have to call poison control or hazmat because the chemicals inside them are so toxic.
